The Marco Silva era is done in Watford. The
Portuguese manager roared off to a terrific start in the Premier
League, was courted by Everton after they fired their manager and now is
out of a job in just over half a season. While Watford are known to
have an itchy trigger finger when it comes to hiring/firing managers,
this still came as a shock to most. Although, due to recent results —
one win in the last 11 — it’s not totally without warrant. The Hornets
will play their first home match without Silva on Monday. Against the
fourth-placed team in the league, it’s hard to think of a tougher home
opener for manager Javi Gracia.
Chelsea
were on a long unbeaten run since their shock 1-0 away loss to West Ham,
but suffered another shock defeat to Bournemouth on Wednesday. It’s
seems like every week Antonio Conte is under some sort of fire or
Chelsea are in crisis, but they remain in the top four entering the late
stages of the Premier League. Earlier in the season, they beat Watford
4-2 at home. Michy Batshuayi scored a brace and Pedro and Cesar
Azpilicueta had one apiece.
