    Full-time: Gor Mahia 1-2 Everton
Dowell's superb strike earns Everton a win in their first pre-season friendly after Rooney had opened the scoring on his second debut with a wonderful, 30-yard finish.

    16:59
    90+5 mins - Hewelt makes a mistake
An awful pass from Hewelt falls straight at the feet of a Gor Mahia attacker, but his shot is straight at the young goalkeeper and he saves easily. That was a big let-off.
    16:58
90+3 - Everton seeing the game out
Koeman's men look happy to keep hold of the ball and not take too many risks with time running out. They're almost there...
    16:54
Six minutes of time added on
There's been a few subs and the injury to Calvert-Lewin, but I'm not sure how the referee has come up with that number. It's almost as if he wants an equaliser and a penalty shootout...

    16:53
    90 mins - Mirallas has a go
Everton are still pressing for another goal. This time Mirallas picks the ball up on the left, cuts inside and shoots but his effort is blocked.
    16:52
87 mins - Keane cleans up
He hasn't had a huge amount to do, but Keane has look assured on his first appearance for Everton. The former Burnley man showed good awareness to poke the ball to safety just a moment ago, ensuring Everton go into the final minutes with their one-goal advantage intact.

    16:48
85 mins - Almost a second for Dowell
A lovely one-two between Dowell and Mirallas almost ends in a goal for the youngster, but his low shot is well saved. Everton are finishing the second half strongly here.

    16:45
82 mins - GOAL - Dowell! Gor Mahia 1-2 Everton
And it's another stunner for Everton! This time Davies picks the ball up in the middle of the park and picks out his mate Dowell, who spins and unleashes a fierce, left-footed drive high into the net. Brilliant from the young winger.
    16:43
    79 mins - Gueye wins a free-kick in a dangerous area...
Mirallas looks like he's going to whip the ball into the box, but he opts to lay it into the path of Dowell who smacks the bar with a fine, left-footed strike from 20 yards. So unlucky.

    16:39
75 mins - Mirallas goes on a run
Mirallas drives towards the Gor Mahia box. He loses possession, but the ball is quickly given back to Gueye who picks out Davies on the edge of the box. The young midfielder has a go at goal but his effort is deflected wide for a corner.
    16:37
    74 mins - Scrap that...
Calvert-Lewin is back on the pitch and seems to be moving fine. We've got just over 15 minutes to play, with a penalty shootout looming...

    16:35
71 mins - Calvert-Lewin is clutching his ankle
Calvert-Lewin is involved again, this time getting on the end of a cross from Dowell. His header rolls harmlessly wide, but he's left holding his ankle after landing awkwardly. Looks like Joe Williams might get a chance here.

    16:31
    67 mins - It's all Everton...
Calvert-Lewin wins the ball back and sets up Gueye, whose low strike is palmed wide. Moments later the Senegal star forces the goalkeeper into another save with a powerful shot before Calvert-Lewin has the ball stolen off his foot when he looked destined to score. This is much better from Everton.
    16:29
65 mins - DCL goes close again
Good play from Calvert-Lewin, who steals the ball away from a defender and forces the goalkeeper into a low save with a left-footed strike. Gueye follows up but his close-range shot is somehow cleared off the line.

    16:28
    64 mins - Goal disallowed
Davies lifts a delightful ball into the area, Keane heads across goal and Calvert-Lewin nods it home but the linesman had his flag up for offside. Replays show that Keane was well onside, although Calvert-Lewin was offside when the initial ball was played.
    16:26
62 mins - Everton pressing well
Koeman looks to have given his second-half team specific instructions to chase down their opponents and force them into errors. Lots of energy in Everton's play during the second period so far.

    16:23
59 mins - Besic bursting forward
Besic is playing in a slightly unfamiliar role of central defence, but he seems to be relishing it so far, getting forward at every opportunity and trying to create from deep. He looks determined to impress Koeman after missing most of last season through injury.

    16:20
55 mins - Gor Mahia make changes
Goalkeeper Boniface Oluoch is replaced by Peter Odhiambo, while Timothy Otieno is also on.
    16:17
51 mins - Gor Mahia feeling confident
Young goalkeeper Hewelt is tested early on in the second half but he dives low to his left and keeps hold of the ball. It's been a bright start to the second half by both teams.

    16:12
48 mins - Davies involved early on
Tom Davies has made a positive start, first bursting down the left and into the box before winning a corner, and then shooting over from distance.

    16:10
The second half is underway and there's been a lot of changes...
Starting XI: Hewelt, Pennington, Baines, Keane, Gueye, Besic, Mirallas, Barry, Calvert-Lewin, Davies, Dowell
That means no more Rooney, which is a shame.

    Half-time: Gor Mahia 1-1 Everton
Everton go in level at the break after Rooney's stunning, long-range strike was cancelled out by Tuyisenge's powerful header.

One minute of time added on
    15:49
42 mins - Gor Mahia pushing for a second
The Kenyan side drive forward down the left again. The cross is too deep and moments later a shot is blasted well over the bar. Goalscorer Tuyisenge then has a low shot which is going wide, but Stekelenburg decides to save it anyway.

    15:42
37 mins - GOAL - Tuyisenge! Gor Mahia 1-1 Everton
Well that didn't last long. Gor Mahia won a corner and the outswinging delivery was met powerfully by Tuyisenge, who directed his header past Stekelenburg and into the top corner. Game on.

    15:39
35 mins - GOAL - Rooney! Gor Mahia 0-1 Everton
What a goal! Rooney picks the ball up, takes a couple of touches to set himself and the curls a beautiful shot into the top corner from 30 yards, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance. What a way to reintroduce yourself - and it wasn't dissimilar to that goal against Arsenal.
    15:39
34 mins - Connolly to the rescue
Gor Mahia work the ball into Everton's box but Connolly's sliding tackle stops a low shot testing Stekelenburg.

    15:38
31 mins - Klaassen looking lively
Some more neat touches from Klaassen, who is filling the No 10 role as expected. The Dutchman has shown some good vision so far and is not afraid to press defenders. Meanwhile, Rooney has won a free-kick near the halfway line after a foul from behind.
    15:34
28 mins - Rooney on the ball
Good play from Klaassen gives Rooney a chance to dictate play. He attempts an ambitious pass to Kenny, but just asks too much of the young defender and Gor Mahia regain possession.
At the other end of the pitch Gor Mahia break quickly down the right before Lookman races back to clear the ball.
    15:31
25 mins - Game getting sloppy
No real chances of note for a few minutes, although Rooney did link well with Lookman a short while ago. The former Charlton winger almost poked the ball through to Lennon, but some desperate defending from Gor Mahia stopped Everton from creating a clear chance.

    15:27
    21 mins - Rooney gets a hug
A man in a Manchester United shirt has just run on the pitch to give Rooney a cuddle, according to the commentators. We didn't get to see it, but apparently Wayne shared a quick embrace before the pitch invader was carted off by security.
    15:24
    20 mins - Rooney appeals for a free-kick...
...but the referee isn't having any of it. The returning hero picks himself up off the turf and gets on with the game.
    15:22
17 mins - Gor Mahia enjoying some possession
Everton aren't having it all their own way against the Kenyan champions. Connolly has just been done for pace down the left but the delivery into the box was poor and Koeman's men can build from the back again.
    15:18
    13 mins - Rooney is lining up a free-kick...
...but his delivery from 30 yards is too deep and the goalkeeper collects the ball with ease. Williams and Jagielka will hope for better than that this season.
    15:17
12 mins - Rooney involved again
McCarthy attempts to play a one-two with Rooney, but the latter's pass is too heavy and finds Kenny wide on the right instead. The young full back hesitates before crossing and the chance is gone.

    15:15
10 mins - Lookman finding his feet
A brief period of Everton possession is ended as Lookman fails to control a simple pass, letting it go out for a throw-in. The visitors are still trying to find their rhythm here.
    15:13
8 mins - McCarthy getting stuck in
His future at Everton looks far from certain, but James McCarthy is chucking himself into challenges in the early stages here. His midfield partner, Morgan Schneiderlin, meanwhile, has just played a very poor pass and given away possession.

    15:10
    Rooney involved early on
Rooney looks keen to make an early impression. He almost finds himself with a shooting opportunity but the ball is cleared by Gor Mahia's defence.

    15:05
Not much to report so far

Everton's players head out for their pre-match warm-up
We're under 10 minutes away from kick-off at the National Stadium and there looks to be a decent crowd in attendance to watch Rooney make his long-awaited Everton return. But can he crown it with a goal against the Kenyan champions?

Everton winger Yannick Bolasie is eager to learn from the club's new 'world class' signing Wayne Rooney and is relishing the extra competition in the side after the club's recent transfer spree.
Former England captain Rooney, who is the record scorer for the national team, returned to Everton after 13 years with Manchester United and was manager Ronald Koeman's sixth signing in the current transfer window.
Winger Bolasie played just 15 matches for Everton last season after sustaining a knee injury in December and will miss the start of the next campaign but is keen to return to action and learn from the experienced England forward.
'There are some top quality players that have come in, especially Rooney, who is world class. He will bring a leader's mentality and it will be good to learn off him,' Democratic Republic of Congo international Bolasie said.

Everton will debut their new grey away kit during this afternoon's friendly against Gor Mahia.
The kit celebrates the Toffees' history by including a motif of legendary forward Dixie Dean on the back of the shirt's neck.
It is also emblazoned with a subtle geometric design that runs across the front while light blue piping decorates the top's sleeves.
